Transport

Our investment to improve the shopping centre and privately owned car park depends on having sufficient parking.

The New Berry Lane car park, adjacent to the free private car park, is little used because of its charging regime. Elmbridge Borough Council has encouraged us to include New Berry Lane car park in the scheme, so that a more holistic approach can be taken to traffic management. This enables cars to access the car park from Molesey Road, channelling the majority of traffic away from New Berry Lane and the school.

You told us you are concerned that there will not be enough parking provided.

You were worried that building new homes on the site would increase traffic on local roads

You also wanted to know if the New Berry Lane car park will be included within the scheme.

We did:

  • We are providing enough parking to meet planning policy guidelines and also foodstore requirements for a store of this size.
  • We have commissioned leading transport consultants to prepare a full transport statement, using 24-hour ANPR camera data and parking surveys undertaken at the Hersham Green Shopping Centre, to inform parking numbers.
  • Currently, the New Berry Lane car park, adjacent to the free private car park, is under used because of its charging regime. We are providing New Berry Lane car park as free parking.
  • We have designed the scheme to channel the majority of traffic away from New Berry Lane, with the main site access from Moseley Road.
  • We are providing 128 customer parking spaces and 54 dedicated residential parking spaces.
  • We have reconfigured the car park to improve navigation and upgrade parking spaces.
  • We are providing electric vehicle charging points and secure cycle spaces to encourage sustainable travel.
  • We will agree a Construction Traffic Management Plan with Elmbridge Borough Council before any construction works starts.
